Sports Week 2021: So far we have been working out in aerobics sessions and competitive welly wanging too! We have also been learning about inspirational sports people.

PROM NIGHT!

We did it... a truly magical evening!

Post 16 students had a lovely evening at the school prom... mocktails, pizza, sweets, dancing, singing (and maybe a little bit of footie too!)

Leavers we hope you had an amazing evening and the night will be another fond memory of your time at Ridgeway School.

As part of the NCS project, students needed to think of ways of raising some money so we could accomplish our goal of making Ridgeway environmentally friendly. Students decided this would include purchasing some hedgehog houses, seeds to grow plants that would encourage the bees, birds and insects to visit us and to show the other students in Ridgeway that we can all work together to make a difference. Post 16 students decided to run a car washing activity which would occur over two days and to organise a chocolate raffle.

Day 2 NCS Project: today the students had the opportunity to do the postman’s walk and the leap of faith. Both of these activities required a great deal of courage and bravery to climb high and demonstrate a good sense of balance. Some students and staff also had the opportunity to take part in the zorbing experience. We also enjoyed having the fire and pizza and sausages cooked on the open top oven.

Day 1 NCS project at Caldecotte. Students have had a fun first day; paddle boarding, driving a speed boat and climbing.

Mock interviews- today Post 16 students had the opportunity to act out a mock interview. Students needed to think about their appearance, the questions they are likely to be asked and if they wanted to ask anything in return about the job.

Life Skills: It was great to get back in the kitchen. We have been making our own recipe books and from this week each pair will be having a go at making shortbread biscuits.

Careers - All of Post 16 took part in a careers workshop. We have been learning all about soft skills, personal skills and qualities

UP16 enjoyed the opportunity of using the exercise machines

Upper Post 16 have been learning about Easter celebrations around the world. We really enjoyed taking part in a Scottish tradition of painting hard boiled eggs, decorating them and rolling them down a hill. Have a look at some of our photos and videos below:

Our Taskmaster Challenges was GREAT FUN for the students and for staff. A very big WELL DONE to you all for taking part and making this Class Zoom session even more memorable!

The Challenge for World Book Day - To read a book in a 'strange' place!

Sharing stories - Serena signed and read through the story 'What the Jackdaw saw' with the class

To support World Book Day on Thursday, Upper Post 16 are having a week focusing on books. We have started the week by looking at our favourite books. Take a look below:

Avatars - As part of our Internet Safety Week, we have been learning about avatars and their purpose online. Staff and students have thoroughly enjoyed creating their own avatars either by hand or using ICT. Don't they look amazing!

Internet Safety 2021 - Students have created a digital footprint. A digital footprint is a trail of 'footprints' that you leave behind you every time you go online. Most of the websites you visit will record by taking a note of your IP (Internet Protocol) address. This is a set of numbers which is unique to your computer. How amazing! Take a look at their wonderfully presented work!

Congratulations to staff and students in UP16 for taking part in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch

  • Upper Post 16 collectively completed this quiz and did amazingly well! - Why not see how much you know about Chinese New Year?

We have continued to learn more about Chinese New Year. Today we took part in an activity called BSL Vs Chinese which was good fun. Nicky also taught us how to make fortune cookies. A fortune cookie is a crisp and sugary cookie usually made from flour, sugar, vanilla, and sesame seed oil with a piece of paper inside, a "fortune". All the students and staff had their fortunes read too

We have discovered what animal we are for Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year 2021 - Upper Post 16 have been learning all about Chinese New Year. Students, staff and parents have thoroughly enjoyed making a Chinese Dragon - Take a look!

Chinese Lanterns - we had a go at creating some lanterns.

Students have been challenged with working out the Chinese Code breakers. We also had a go at writing our names using the Chinese symbols too!

This week UP16 have been working on lots of activities to support the Big Garden Birdwatch 2021. Look at these amazing drawings by staff and students in Upper - Excellent effort!!

Upper Post 16 - Animal Care course

We have been learning about what is involved in looking after a range of typical house pets and even those unusual pets such as snails, snakes and spiders! As part of the module we have been exploring Woodland Animals and students have been researching what some of those animals need to survive - especially during the Winter months. Examples of some of their work below:

Post 16 have been celebrating the Christmas festivities in style - Christmas lunch, party and pizza take away! Happy Christmas from us all

In ICT students have been learning how to create images using software tools. Today we have used the shapes tool to make some fabulous images.

Post 16 students thoroughly enjoyed the Halloween Party today. It was packed with games, pumpkin carving, a quiz and a disco to finish!
